Marvel’s “What If…?” is a new animated series that reimagines the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “What If…?” premieres on Disney Plus on August 11 and the first season will run for nine episodes.
“What If…?” features dozens of actors returning to voice their MCU roles, including the late Chadwick Boseman, star of “Black Panther.” However, “What If…?” proposes an alternate reality where the origins of familiar heroes are fundamentally different, like Boseman’s T’Challa becoming a member of the Ravagers gang from “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Other returning MCU stars include Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayley Atwell, and more.
Disney Plus exclusive shows, like “Loki,” “WandaVision,” and “The Falcon and the Winter Solider,” have all had lasting impacts on the MCU, but it’s unclear if the ideas explored in “What If…?” will expand beyond the series. Marvel executive producer Kevin Feige has already confirmed that a second season of “What If…?” is in production.
